| Michael Jackson, King of Pop.
Born on 29th August 1958, Michael Jackson started his entertainment career as the lead singer of the Jackson5. The band comprised of his brothers who were all older than him, and was run by his father Joseph. The group did very well and the star of the band was undoubtedly little Michael at eleven years of age. He started singing solo two years later and pioneered the entry of African Americans in to the world of pop and ensured a vast following that gave him instant success. His fans numbered in the millions even though he was just in his teens.
Record breaking
Three of his album which broke records are"Bad", "Thriller" and "Off the Wall", sold millions of copies worldwide and gave him an entry into the record books. Guinness World of Records listed him as the entertainer who was the most successful. During his career he got 13 Grammys with singles that remained on the music charts for a very long time.
His dancing skills have led to many entertainers being inspired to imitate him and his added singing skills made him unique. Michael was of a philanthropic bent of mind and his charities have helped millions worldwide. His death is a huge loss to the entertainment industry and the world at large.
I admire Him and I am convinced that people like Him make the world a better place. King of Pop will always be remembered and will be in the hearts of his fans, forever.

| Arthur Conan Doyle Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Doyles were a prosperous Irish-Catholic family, who had a prominent position in the world of art. From 1876 to 1881, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He wrote short stories in his spare time. Following his studies at university, Doyle was employed as a surgeon on a whaling boat and also as a medical officer on a steamer travelling between Liverpool and West Africa. During the next years, Conan Doyle divided his time between trying to be a good doctor and struggling to become a recognized author.
In March 1886, Doyle started writing the novel which catapulted him to fame. Two years later this novel was published in "Beeton's Christmas Annual", under the title "A Study in Scarlet" which introduced us to the immortal Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is most noted for his fictional stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction. He is also known for writing the fictional adventures of a second character he invented, Professor Challenger, and for popularising the mystery of the Mary Celeste.
Arthur Conan Doyle is one of my favorite writers. I read his novels with pleasure. In my opinion he is one of the leading masters of the detective genre.

| James Chase
James Hadley Chase is a pseudonym for British author Rene Brabazon Raymond (December 24,1906 – February 6, 1985) who was an English writer. Chase, a London-born son of a British colonel serving in the colonial Indian Army who intended his son to have a scientific career, was initially raised at the King's School. He left home at the age of 18 and became at different times a broker in a bookshop, a children's encyclopedia salesman before capping it all with a writing career that produced more than 80 mystery books.
Prohibition and the ensuing Great Depression in the US (1929–39) had given rise to the Chicago gangster culture just prior to World War II. This, combined with Chase's book trade experience, made him realise that there was a big demand for gangster stories.
With the help of maps and a slang dictionary, he wrote his first novel "No Orchids for Miss Blandish" in his spare time. The book achieved remarkable notoriety and became one of the best-selling books of the decade.
All of his novels is fast-paced, I always turn the pages in a non-stop effort to reach the end of the book. The final page often produced a totally unexpected plot twist that would leave you surprised. His early books contained some violence that reflect the era in which they were written. In the same time Chase's works are often definitely instructive. Many of them show how can man go too far with the crimes because of breaking the law once and never come back to normal life.

| Mark Twain is a famous American writer and a journalist. I like read his books very much. His real name was Samuel Clemens. He was born in 1835 in Florida. Mark Twain started his literary career rather late. He worked as a journalist in newspapers in Nevada and California during the years of the Civil War. His father died when the boy was only 12 years old. Twain had to start working with his brother. In 1857 he became a sailor on the Mississippi. After the Civil War he worked as a reporter for the “Territorial Enterprise” in Virginia City. His witty style, characterizing all his following works, was formed during his work in that newspaper. Soon after his first stories had been published he received the fame of the first humourist of America. “The Gilded Age”, “My Watch”, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” appeared during this period in Twain’s literary career. The characteristic features of American comical folklore found their place in Twain’s creative works. He ignores all the rules of the “true” art and laughs at the European civilization. As the Americans of his times he believes in democratic America, creating a new culture, ignoring all previous experience of mankind. His removal to New York and his marriage to a daughter of a coal tycoon changed a lot in his life. He tried to become a businessman, but ruined himself and had to deliver lectures. In the 1870s he wrote “Life on Mississippi”, and in 1885 — “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”.I should admit, it is my favourite book.“The Prince and the Pauper”, and “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” were also published during this time. In his works of that period Mark Twain showed racial prejudices, clash of humanism with antihuman materialism of bourgeois world. His works of the period greatly influenced American literature. The last period of his creative work is the time of pamphlet, which became his most favorite genre.

| Edward Norton was born on August 18, 1969 to parents Edward, an attorney who works for the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Robin Norton, a former foundation executive and teacher who passed away of brain cancer on March 6, 1997. Edward also has two younger siblings named James and Molly. From the age of 5 onward, the Yale graduate (majoring in history) has always been interested in acting. At the age of 8, he would ask his drama teacher what his motivation in a scene was. He attended theater schools throughout his life, and eventually managed to find work on stage in New York as a member of the Signature players, who produced the works of playwright and director Edward Albee. Around the time when he was appearing in Albee's Fragments, in Hollywood, they were looking for a young actor to star opposite Richard Gere in a new courtroom thriller, "Primal Fear" (1996). The role was offered to Leonardo DiCaprio but he turned it down. Gere was on the verge of walking away from the project, fed up with the wait for a young star to be found, when Edward auditioned and won the role over 2000 other hopefuls. Before the film was even released, his test screenings for the part were causing a Hollywood sensation, and he was soon offered roles in Woody Allen's "Everyone Says I Love You" (1996) and "The People vs. Larry Flynt" (1996). Edward won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Primal Fear". In 1998, Norton gained 30 pounds of muscle and transformed his look into that of a monstrous skinhead for his role as a violent white supremacist in "American History X". This performance would earn him his second Oscar nomination, this time for Best Actor. In 1999 came the critically acclaimed "Fight Club" and in 2000 came his directorial debut in "Keeping the Faith".

| Edgar Allan Poe (born Edgar Poe; January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story, and is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.
Born in Boston, he was the second child of two actors. His father abandoned the family in 1810, and his mother died the following year. Thus orphaned, the child was taken in by John and Frances Allan, of Richmond, Virginia. Although they never formally adopted him, Poe was with them well into young adulthood. Tension developed later as John Allan and Edgar repeatedly clashed over debts, including those incurred by gambling, and the cost of secondary education for the young man. Poe attended the University of Virginia for one semester but left due to lack of money. Poe quarreled with Allan over the funds for his education and enlisted in the Army in 1827 under an assumed name. It was at this time his publishing career began, albeit humbly, with an anonymous collection of poems, Tamerlane and Other Poems (1827), credited only to "a Bostonian". With the death of Frances Allan in 1829, Poe and Allan reached a temporary rapprochement. Later failing as an officer's cadet at West Point and declaring a firm wish to be a poet and writer, Poe parted ways with John Allan.
Poe switched his focus to prose and spent the next several years working for literary journals and periodicals, becoming known for his own style of literary criticism. His work forced him to move among several cities, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.In January 1845 Poe published his poem, "The Raven", to instant success. For years, he had been planning to produce his own journal, The Penn (later renamed The Stylus), though he died before it could be produced. On October 7, 1849, at age 40, Poe died in Baltimore; the cause of his death is unknown and has been variously attributed to alcohol, brain congestion, cholera, drugs, heart disease, rabies, suicide, tuberculosis, and other agents.[3]
Poe and his works influenced literature in the United States and around the world, as well as in specialized fields, such as cosmology and cryptography. Poe and his work appear throughout popular culture in literature, music, films, and television. A number of his homes are dedicated museums today. The Mystery Writers of America present an annual award known as the Edgar Award for distinguished work in the mystery genre.
